BROWN INTERIOR DESIGN – FAMILY ROOM, DINING ROOM & LIVING ROOM, BELLINGHAM, WA
‘Embracing the spirit of Africa in the Pacific Northwest’

Project statement:

Design comfortable and evocative interiors which embrace the spirit of Africa without any of the usual clichés. The owner, who has traveled extensively in Africa, wanted to capture the feeling and essence of his time there but in a way that would feel appropriate and natural in his new Northwest-style home. The result is a warm, comfortable and inviting home that suggests the ‘Spirit of Africa’ through carefully selected pieces of furniture which subtly evoke the hand-made pieces of furniture that one might encounter at an African nature preserve or safari camp. Textural baskets, custom carpets, African fabrics, selected African art and decorative pieces create just the right spirit and atmosphere to suit this ‘lover of all things African’.

BROWN INTERIOR DESIGN – CUSTOM BUILT CABINETS
‘Spectacular upgraded interior architectural features for a spec house’

Project statement: Family Room Entertainment Wall

Design a large built-in unit to fill the entire length of the family room which will accommodate a stereo and speakers, flat screen TV, and display a selection of the owner’s Africa-related books and decorative objects. Design the unit so that it will be in balance with the room while not dominating the space.  Design the piece to harmonize with the existing fireplace and the existing window placement.

Project statement: Cherrywood Library

Take a small, north-facing room located off the foyer and transform it into a classic paneled library. Workings within the existing spatial constraints completely outfit the walls with cherry wood cabinets below and adjustable bookshelves above. Create bridge-like bookshelf units to fill the space above the doors and window. Design custom end panels and crown molding; and develop a custom stain color and glaze. Develop a new architectural lighting plan to illuminate the bookshelves and spotlight the African sculptures and decorative objects.
