Lake Washington Villa

‘A remarkable transformation – generic rooms become rich with character and deep with meaning’

Project statement: House Remodel

A fine architecturally designed home set into a hillside at the water’s edge did not receive the interior design treatment it warranted when it was built. A decade later, the original owners were ready to upgrade the interiors but did not know how to proceed and were lacking confidence [based on past experience] that they would be happy with the finished result.

The old kitchen was demolished and replaced with new wood custom kitchen cabinets, granite slab kitchen island, and a remarkable metal canopy over the island. The living room and family room fireplaces were completely re-imagined and faced in granite or marble. A buffet wall was removed between the dining room and the living room which opened things up, creating more space and better circulation. An extensive new architectural lighting plan was added to the structural concrete ceilings.

Project statement: Fine Interior Design

Exquisite attention to detail was lavished on all aspects of the interiors to create the richly layered, understated and elegant interiors. Comfort and warm invitation were given equal weight to style and design in all aspects of this transformed family home. Custom pieces include hand woven carpets from Tibet, custom designed and hand fabricated metal sconces and fireplace surrounds, commissioned fine art for the curved wall at the stairs and the wall above the living room fireplace. The furnishings are a diverse and rich mix of styles, finishes, and materials. Original and reproduction art are used interchangeably.  Rare and ordinary decorative objects from around the world and custom silk flowers are used to great effect.
